Lautman Wins Big at 2019 DMFA Awards

We’re thrilled to announce that Lautman Maska Neill & Company won big at the 2019 Direct Marketing Fundraisers Association (DMFA) Awards show this year. The prestigious DMFA AWARDS give members the opportunity to showcase their very best direct mail, multi-channel and digital fundraising efforts. Winners in each of the categories are voted on by their peers at the DMFA AWARDS Luncheon each June.

This year, Lautman came away as the overall winner with our direct mail fundraising package, Life In a Cage,”created for the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM).

Lautman has worked with PCRM since 2006. The Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine is leading the crusade to end the abuse of animals in science and medical education. In September 2018, PCRM was ramping up their efforts to shut down one of the most notorious dog labs — urging donors to help save dogs scheduled to die in research experiments at Wayne State University. But, September is a busy time of year for the mailbox. PCRM’s donors support many other organizations who help and save animals. There was a good chance this important campaign could be overlooked — and that would be tragic for these poor dogs.

PCRM knew in order to raise enough funds to save the dogs at Wayne State, they needed to show a different side of the cruelty — motivating donors to support PCRM and shut down the dog lab once and for all!

27” x 27” — that’s the size of a cage for dogs at Wayne State, and that’s the size of the insert PCRM included in the mailing. This huge white insert with the note “I spend most of my life at Wayne State University in a cage about this size. – Dog #8923” was the star of the mailing, which included an urgent letter and petition.

The results were truly unbelievable – PCRM’s creative strategy was a runaway winner! The mailing raised a mind-blowing 164% more net revenue than projected! This was mainly due to the rapid response of 5,383 committed donors eager to save innocent dogs from untimely death — a 63% higher response than projected! And, their generous $44.89 average gift surpassed projections by 13%.

We’re incredibly proud to be able to work with nonprofits like PCRM who are committed to making the world a better place. If you would like to learn more about this campaign or how we could help you grow your fundraising program, get in touch!
